Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, ending years of speculation about a folding device from the world’s most valuable technology company. A New Kind of iPhone
The iPhone Duo opens like a book, unfolding from a 5.4-inch outer screen into a 7.6-inch inner display that Apple calls the largest ever fitted to an iPhone, with roughly 50 percent more screen area than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The outer display alone offers more than 90 percent of the screen area of a standard iPhone 18 Pro, meaning the device functions as a full phone even before it is opened.
Under the hood sits Apple’s A20 Pro chip, paired with vapor-chamber cooling and a dual-battery arrangement built around the two halves of the phone. Because there is no room for the TrueDepth camera array, Apple has brought back Touch ID, built into the power button, in place of Face ID. The body is machined titanium with Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, and the phone carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. On the software side, iOS 27 has been reworked for the folding form factor, with Split View multitasking, hands-free FaceTime, a StandBy mode that works without charging, and layouts that adapt as the phone moves between folded and unfolded states. Apple Pencil support over USB-C is coming later in 2026. The camera system includes a 48-megapixel Dual Fusion setup with Duo Preview, which lets a subject see their own framing on the outer screen, and Duo FaceTime, which mirrors calls onto the outer display. iPhone Duo comes in Star White and Night Sky, with pre-orders from October 16 and sales from October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, including the US, UK, China, Japan and India. What It Could Cost in Pakistan
Apple does not operate an official retail store in Pakistan, so iPhones typically reach the market through authorised resellers or personal import, after which buyers must register the device with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to activate a local SIM. Official Pakistan pricing has not been confirmed by Apple.
The device starts at 1,999 US dollars for the base 256GB model, with regional prices already reported nearby: roughly 299,900 Indian rupees in India and 8,499 UAE dirhams in the United Arab Emirates. Industry outlet PhoneWorld estimates that PTA taxes alone could add approximately 323,000 rupees on a passport-based registration or 353,000 rupees on a CNIC-based registration, figures it stresses are estimates pending an official valuation from the PTA and the Federal Board of Revenue. Some media reports have suggested a possible retail price near 878,707 rupees for the base model once import costs and taxes are added, though this figure is unofficial and should be treated with caution until confirmed by authorised local retailers.
The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s entry into the foldable phone category, arriving as rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series have already gone through several generations. For Pakistani buyers, the bigger question may not be specifications but final landed cost, since PTA taxes and the lack of an official Apple store typically add a substantial premium over the international price. Buyers considering an import should wait for authorised retailers and PTA to confirm final pricing before ordering.
