Apple iOS 27 iPhone Handoff: What iPhone 18 Pro Users Need to Know

Apple is preparing to roll out iOS 27, with a new “iPhone Handoff” feature designed for people who use more than one iPhone. The feature lets two iPhones share the same phone number through a main eSIM and a companion eSIM. For Pakistani buyers watching the expected iPhone 18 Pro launch, carrier support could be as important as the hardware.

  • iPhone Handoff is a new cellular feature in iOS 27.
  • It is designed to let two iPhones use the same phone number.
  • The main iPhone keeps the primary eSIM, while the companion receives a companion eSIM.
  • Both devices need iOS 27, and carrier support is required.
  • Apple has not officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro; its next major iPhone event is scheduled for September 9, 2026.

What is iPhone Handoff in iOS 27?

Apple’s new iPhone Handoff is separate from its existing Handoff system, which lets users continue activities between Apple devices. The new cellular feature focuses on moving the same phone number between two iPhones.

According to a demonstration reported by MacRumors, the feature can be configured under Settings > Cellular. Users choose a main iPhone and a companion iPhone. The primary eSIM remains on the main device, while the second iPhone receives a companion eSIM.

This could help users keep a premium phone for everyday use and a second device for travel, outdoor activities or situations where carrying an expensive handset is inconvenient. Location sharing is based on whichever iPhone is actively using the number.

Will iPhone 18 Pro support iOS 27 Handoff?

The expected answer is yes, but Apple has not yet made the iPhone 18 Pro official.

Apple says iOS 27 is coming this fall and has confirmed compatibility with existing iPhones from the iPhone 11 through the second-generation iPhone SE. The current official list does not include the iPhone 18 Pro because it has not been announced.

Recent reports say Apple is preparing to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its September 9 event. If the new Pro models launch with iOS 27, they would be expected to support its latest features, including iPhone Handoff, subject to carrier availability. That remains an expectation until Apple confirms the hardware and feature set.

Why the feature matters in Pakistan

For Pakistani users, the biggest question may be whether local mobile networks support iPhone Handoff.

MacRumors reports that carrier support is necessary and identifies T-Mobile in the United States and Deutsche Telekom in Germany as possible early providers. Apple has not publicly confirmed support from Pakistani carriers.

Therefore, buying two compatible iPhones will not necessarily mean the feature works immediately in Pakistan. Carrier eSIM policies, technical support and Apple’s rollout arrangements could determine availability.

A possible use case would be keeping an iPhone 18 Pro as the main device and an older compatible iPhone as a companion. If a Pakistani carrier supports the service, the same number could potentially be available on both phones.

iOS 27 offers more than Handoff

iPhone Handoff is only one part of iOS 27. Apple’s official preview highlights Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence features, AI-assisted photo editing, Safari improvements and new child-safety controls.

Apple says Siri AI will offer more natural conversations, personal-context understanding and actions across apps. Other highlighted tools include Spatial Reframing, an enhanced Clean Up feature and smarter Safari functions.

Apple’s iOS 27 page currently says the software is “coming this fall.” The update has undergone months of beta testing, while the September 9 event is expected to reveal final launch details.

iPhone Handoff could make iOS 27 especially useful for people who regularly switch between two iPhones. For Pakistani consumers considering the expected iPhone 18 Pro, local carrier compatibility will be crucial. Apple’s September 9 event and the final iOS 27 rollout should provide clearer information about devices, carriers and regional availability.
